Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives

What is a Hispanic Serving Institution?

According to the U.S. Department of education, a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) is an eligible institution of higher education that has at least a 25% enrollment of undergraduate, fulltime equivalent, Hispanic students (2023).

Who We Are

The Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives Department was founded in the Spring of 2023 with the purpose of institutionalizing an HSI identity that focuses on Servingness with intentionality across the university and community. HSI's ideology of Servingness focuses on six themes that transforms UTA into a Hispanic Thriving Institution and advances our HSI federal designation.

Message from the Provost

"UTA is proud to have received the Seal of Excelencia certification, which recognizes our commitment to intentionally serving -- and not just enrolling -- Latina/o students. But we do not want to stop there, which is why Maria Delgado and her team are leading initiatives that ensure our Latina/o Mavericks not only survive but thrive."
