What is a Hispanic Serving Institution?

According to the U.S. Department of education, a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) is an eligible institution of higher education that has at least a 25% enrollment of undergraduate, fulltime equivalent, Hispanic students (2023).

Who We Are

The HSI was founded in Spring 2023 with the purpose of institutionalizing an evidence-based framework and incorporates UTA’s definition and application of servingness which focuses on providing access to excellence, enhances academic capacity, excels academic quality and nos hace sentir en familia. HSIs ideology of servingness focuses on six themes:

Support Services Offered

Excelencia Support

Examples of Excelencia is the only national data-driven initiative to recognize programs at the associate, baccalaureate and graduate levels as well as at community-based organizations with evidence of effectiveness in accelerating student success. The purpose of the support team is to assist UTA units with the process to apply for the Examples of Excelencia.
